2026-05-06 - RESOLVED. Tomcat upgraded 9.0.109 -> 9.0.117 on all 4 NOTIFICATIONS nodes. PRE (notif-e-app-01/02) done 2026-04-29, PROD (notif-p-app-01/02) done 2026-05-06. Service validated, old logs cleaned up. Note: PROD uses playbook `notifications-update-tomcat.yml` (different name from PRE).

Upgrade Tomcat 9.0.109 -> 9.0.117 (rolling, one frontend at a time)

== PREPROD (notif-e) ==

1. Login to ansible prod server (ansbl-p-mng-01.global.un.org)

bash get_ansible.sh
cd /root/ansible/
```

2. Edit playbook - leave only notif-e-app-01 uncommented:

```
vim playbooks/jobs/notifications-tomcat-update-playbook.yml
```

3. Run:

```
ansible-playbook playbooks/jobs/notifications-tomcat-update-playbook.yml
```

4. Validate node 1:

```
ps auxwww | grep tomcat
ls -l /opt/tomcat   # should point to apache-tomcat-9.0.117
curl https://pre-comms.uniteaware.un.org/api/v1/rest/monitor
```

5. Edit playbook - comment notif-e-app-01, uncomment notif-e-app-02. Run again (same command).
6. Validate node 2 (same checks).

Wait 2 days for preprod validation before proceeding to prod.

== PROD (notif-p) ==

* Round 1: notif-p-app-01 only -> run -> validate
* Round 2: notif-p-app-02 only -> run -> validate

**Round 1 — notif-p-app-01:**

Edit playbook:

Leave only notif-p-app-01 uncommented:

Run:

ansible-playbook playbooks/jobs/notifications-update-tomcat.yml
```

Validate:

# must show: /opt/tomcat -> /opt/apache-tomcat-9.0.117
```

**Round 2 — notif-p-app-02:**

Edit playbook again, swap to notif-p-app-02:

```yaml
- hosts:
    ###- notif-e-app-01
    ###- notif-e-app-02
    ###- notif-p-app-01
    - notif-p-app-02
```

Run:

```
ansible-playbook playbooks/jobs/notifications-update-tomcat.yml
```

Validate same as Round 1.

**Check service:** https://comms.uniteaware.un.org/api/v1/rest/monitor

**Cleanup (after full validation):**

```
rm -rf /opt/apache-tomcat-9.0.109/logs/*
```

Run on both notif-p-app-01 and notif-p-app-02.

**Rollback (any host):**

```
cd /opt
systemctl stop tomcat
rm tomcat
ln -s apache-tomcat-9.0.109 tomcat
systemctl start tomcat
```
